The Libre Software Meeting 2005

In July 2005 I went to the Libre Software Meeting 2005 in Dijon, and gave a presentation entitled:

“Linux: the Esperanto of software
Esperanto: the Linux of languages”

I nicked the title from the email signature of Vilhelmo Lutermano (the guy who maintains Le Monde Diplomatique in Esperanto), and the content was heavily based on an article by Dale Gulledge, who had the idea of comparing the evolution of Esperanto with the development of an open source software project, following the lines of the seminal work The Cathedral and the Bazaar. And it would appear that it was not at all badly received by the public.

At nearly 200Mb, it’ll take a while to download, even with broadband, but the video lasts over an hour. The sound quality’s not great, but it’s the best we could do with the equipment available.

La Renkontiĝo pri Liberaj Programoj

Dum julio de 2005 mi ĉeestis la Renkontiĝo pri Liberaj Programoj en Diĵono, Francio, kaj donis prelegon titolitan jene:

“Linukso: la Esperanto de komputiloj
Esperanto: la Linukso de lingvoj”

Mi ŝteletis la titolon de la retmesaĝa subskribo de Vilhelmo Lutermano (la respondeculo de Le Monde Diplomatique en Esperanto), kaj la prelego mem multe baziĝis sur artikolo de Dale Gulledge, kiu havis la ideon kompari la evoluon de Esperanto kun tiu de libera programo, laŭ la priskribo en la impona verko La Katedralo kaj La Bazaro (angle: The Cathedral and The Bazaar). Kaj ŝajnas, ke ĝi estis sufiĉe bone ricevita de la publiko.

Se la antaŭa alineo ne jam endormigis vin, eble interesus vin elŝuti kaj spekti la videobendon de la prelego. Atentu, ke ĝi estas entute franclingva. Je preskaŭ 200Mb-oj, la elŝuto bezonos iom da tempo, eĉ per rapida retaliro, sed la video mem daŭras pli ol unu horo. La sonkvalito estas ne tre alta, sed ne eblis fari pli kun la materialo disponebla.

La Rencontre Mondiale du Logiciel Libre

Au mois de juilliet 2005, j’ai assité à la Rencontre Mondiale du Logiciel Libre à Dijon, où j’ai fait une présentation entitré :

“Linux: l’Espéranto des Logiciels
Espéranto: le Linux des Langues”

Le titre j’ai piqué du signature des courriels de Vilhelmo Lutermano (celui qui maintient Le Monde Diplomatique en Espéranto), et j’ai basé le contenu en grande partie sur un texte de Dale Gulledge, qui a eu l’idée de comparer l’évolution d’Espéranto avec le développement d’un logiciel “open source”, selon l’oeuvre de Eric Raymond La Cathédrale et Le Bazar. Et à priori ce n’était pas mal reçu par le publique.

Si tout cela n’a pas encore réussi à vous endormir, n’hésitez pas à télécharger le vidéo de la présentation. A presque 200Mo, le téléchargement est assez lourd, mais le vidéo dure plus qu’une heure. Le son n’est pas terrible, mais c’est tout ce qu’on a pu faire avec les matos disponibles.
